How it works

Aptamil Comfort is proven to help soothe the symptoms of colic and constipation. It is nutritionally tailored, with our unique blend of Galacto- and Fructo-oligosaccharides (GOS/FOS), and contains reduced lactose* than standard formula milks, to reduce gas and other intestinal discomfort. Aptamil Comfort also contains partially broken down whey protein, which is easy to digest.

What is colic?

If your baby is crying repeatedly, excessively and inconsolably, they may be suffering from colic. The exact cause of colic is not known, which can be frustrating for parents. However, Aptamil Comfort is formulated for the dietary management of colic. You can read our complete guide to comforting a colicky baby for more information.

What is constipation?

Constipation usually involves your baby passing abnormally delayed, infrequent, hard or dry stools, accompanied by pain and straining. You may also notice they have a poor appetite and a lack of energy. Aptamil Comfort is formulated for the dietary management of constipation.

Because powdered milks are not sterile, failure to follow instructions may make your baby ill.

Wash hands and sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions.

Boil 1 litre of freshly run water. Leave kettle to cool for 30 minutes and no longer. Measure the required amount of water (refer to feeding guide) into a sterilised bottle. Be careful of scalding. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water.

Using the scoop provided, level off the powder with the built in leveller. Do not press/heap the powder.

Add the correct measure of powder to the water. Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful. Place the sterilised teat and cap on the bottle and  shake immediately, vertically and vigorously for at least 10 seconds, until the powder is dissolved.

Cool under running tap. Check temperature of feed. Feed immediately.

Due to the blend of ingredients in Aptamil® Comfort, the milk can separate once prepared. If this occurs, shake the bottle vigorously to mix and use as normal.
You may notice that your baby’s stools change consistency when using this formula, this is completely normal.

What’s in Aptamil Comfort?

Lactose can sometimes be hard for a baby's developing digestive system to break down. Aptamil Comfort has reduced lactose* than standard milks, and the protein in it is partially broken down, which helps make it easy to digest.

It also contains our unique blend of special carbohydrates Galacto- and Fructo-oligosaccharides (GOS/FOS), and additional nutrients such as long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) Omega 3 and Omega 6 and nucleotides.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my baby struggling to get milk from a regular teat?
Because Aptamil Comfort is slightly thickened with starch to reduce air intake when swallowing, you should change your baby’s teat to a variable-flow teat, or a single-hole teat with a medium or fast flow.

Why has there been a change in my baby’s stools?
It is completely normal for your baby’s stools to change when you switch to Aptamil Comfort. You may find they are softer, looser, lighter, or sometimes even green while their digestive system adjusts to the new formula.

How long does Aptamil Comfort take to work?
This varies from child to child, but generally if after two weeks you see no effect, you should talk to your GP about alternative options.

Can I continue using Aptamil Comfort beyond six months?
Your baby's colic symptoms should have subsided by six months of age. At this stage you may want to think about moving onto a milk tailored to complement a weaning diet – such as Aptamil Follow On Milk. If the symptoms persist, you should speak with your pharmacist or GP.

Do I need my GP to prescribe Aptamil Comfort?
No, like our core range of milks, Aptamil Comfort is available in pharmacies and supermarkets. However, you should always have your child’s colic symptoms looked at by your healthcare professional P before deciding on a treatment.

*Contains 39% of the lactose in Aptamil First Infant Milk.

This product is available at Tesco, Supervalu, Dunnes & Boots.

Important notice

Breastfeeding is best for babies. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. Follow-on milk is only for babies over 6 months, as part of a mixed diet and should not be used as a breastmilk substitute before 6 months. We advise that all formula milks including the decision to start weaning should be made on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist or other professional responsible for maternal and child care, based on baby’s individual needs.

Do not use if your baby has been diagnosed with a cow's milk allergy.

Use Toddler Milk as part of a varied balanced diet from 1 year.
