Stella turns one!

Judy Gilroy, Fashion Stylist and Mum to little Stella, has been using Aptamil Organic Toddler Milk since Stella turned 12 months old. Once she celebrated her first birthday Judy knew she wanted to keep supporting Stella and so decided to move her to Aptamil Organic Toddler Milk, which has Vitamin D to support the normal function of the immune system.

Below we chat with Judy about Stella turning one, and how she feels about Stella starting her journey into toddlerhood.

How did you feel when Stella turned 1?

Stella turning one was surprisingly emotional for me. The first year of your baby’s life is such a journey for parents, and I think mums in particular. There are so many highs, some lows and, once you think you have it nailed, their needs go and change again and you have to learn how to get through the next stage. When Stella turned one, I felt like she transformed from being my little baby to a toddler before my eyes and, while it’s wonderful to watch them grow and learn new skills, it definitely made me nostalgic and emotional!

How has your daily routine with Stella changed as she passes the 1 year mark?

Daily life has become so much busier since Stella has entered the toddler phase and our routine has definitely changed with it. As Stella is eating more and more food groups and is now on a proper meal schedule of three meals a day with snacks, her milk feeds have reduced to just one beaker in the morning and another beaker before bedtime. I moved her on to Aptamil Organic Toddler Milk when she turned one in line with her age and stage and she seems to love it. I really cherish the morning and evening feeds when we still get to cosy up and have a cuddle while she takes her milk feeds - it’s a lovely moment of peace in an otherwise hectic day and she is becoming so independent so quickly that I know they won’t last forever.

How is Stella getting on with feeding? Is she a fussy eater?

Stella loves food most of the time but, like all toddlers, she has her moments! There is nothing more heartbreaking as a mum than to watch your child throw your home cooked meals over the side of the highchair to the dog but, with Aptamil Organic Toddler Milk, I always know she's getting key nutrients she needs. It has  Vitamin D that she needs to support the normal function of her immune system so that's reassuring, even if the dog is the one to eat her dinner!

What milestones are you most excited about for Stella in the toddler years?

Stella is an expert crawler, stair climber and furniture scaler but she is yet to take her first steps which I’m very excited to see. I also can’t wait for her to talk - she has so much sass and a great sense of humour so I can’t wait to see what she has to say.

Any Toddler must-haves or advice you would give other mums?

At this age, everyone seems to ask if your toddler is walking/talking/eating/sleeping and it can be so easy to fall into the comparison trap or to worry that your child isn’t hitting milestones at the same time as other kids. The best advice I’ve been given is to let Stella lead the pace - they all get there in the end and she’ll smash those milestones all in her own time.
