Starting your baby on solid foods is a big milestone! But it can sometimes be a bit confusing when it comes to choosing the right foods for them.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland recommends that weaning should begin at around 6 months of age and no earlier than 17 weeks. When you first begin weaning the best options for baby are pureed fruit or vegetables or a baby specific cereal such as baby rice. There is no one food that will have all the nutrients that your baby needs so it is really important to offer plenty of variety so that they are getting a balanced diet. Aptamil cereals are one suitable option as part of your baby’s weaning diet.

Why choose Aptamil cereals?

Feeding a five months old baby with a spoon

Nutritionally tailored for babies

Most family cereals contain levels of salt and sugar that may not be suitable for your baby. Because our Aptamil cereals are made specifically for babies, you can be sure that they only provide your baby with nutrients that are tailored to their needs.

  • They all contain no added sugar or salt
  • No preservatives
  • Our creamed porridge range, multigrain cereal range and muesli range all contain Pronutravi+™, our unique blend of GOS/FOS, vitamins A, C, D and iron.

Textures for all stages

Our Aptamil cereals are uniquely tailored to help support your baby’s progression through the weaning journey. As they progress through the cereals, the texture gradually increases helping them to become familiar with lumpier and chewier foods.

Introducing gluten

Gluten should be introduced at around 6 months of age and before 7 months.

Gluten needs to be introduced to your baby’s diet at around 6 months of age and before 7 months of age.  It should be introduced in small amounts at first with the amount and frequency gradually increasing over 4-6 weeks. A gluten containing cereal such as Aptamil Creamed apricot porridge is one suitable option for the early stages of weaning. Other gluten containing foods include white or wholemeal bread, pasta shapes or couscous.
